Grinding Noise When Turning Key In Ignition

I found this post in a search. Any inputs will be greatly I appreciated as I want my money back from the place that did the work. The gears on the end of the starter are probably damaged so they don't intermesh tightly, and slip and grind when they try to engage the flywheel. Almost sounds like noisy valves for a second as if there is no oil on them. I was thinking it was an alarm about engine temp maybe, but the water coming out of the engine is cold.
